scope:
a) This Defence Standard (Def Stan) is published to provide a guide for designers of Internal Communications, in HM Surface Ships and Submarines, utilizing Rationalized Internal Communications Equipment (RICE) Mk II. It details the principles to be followed when designing:
1) Interconnections between RICE Mk II equipment and Zone Centres;
2) Interconnection of RICE units at typical positions;
3) Siting of Zone Centres;
4) Cabling between Zone Centres.
b) This Standard complements Def Stan 08-160, Def Stan 02-512 Parts 1 to 13 (parts 10 to 13 are obsolescent and only apply to legacy application) and any other instructions applicable to RICE systems.
c) The current Maritime Combat Systems (MCS) policy is stated for the various aspects of system design and installation. All designs of RICE Mk II Systems are also to comply with Def Stan 02-542 Part 1 (for legacy fits).
