This standard is applicable for measurement of fiber optic components and products for image and data transmission (distances up to 100 m) as well as for transmission of light and optical radiation in the near infrared and ultraviolet spectral range.

The standard is not applicable for fiber optic components and products, intended for telecommunication and data transmission over distances > 100 m.

This standard defines a uniform method for the determination of photometric characteristics of side emitting light guides.

The procedures defined here are based on fiber optical components and products for which the side emitting mechanism is constant over a defined length and which show the initial length effect as defined in 3.3.
