PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This method determines the breaking strength of nonwoven textile fabrics. It is intended primarily for testing materials that are difficult to grip in the clamps of the testing machine and that cannot be teted satisfactorily by CAN/CGSB-4..2 No.9.1 or 9.2 (Note 1).

The procedure is applicable to fabric either in the conditioned state or wet.

The procedure is recommended particularly for use with a constant-rate-of-extension tensile testing machine (e.g., strain gauge) (Note 2).

The testing and evaluation of a product against this method may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this method has the responsibly to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
