FAA-ER-D-120-012 REV A

ENGINEERING REQUIREMENT ARTS-II ENHANCEMENTS

active, Most Current
Organization: FAA
Publication Date: 1 October 1981
Status: active
Page Count: 78
scope:

This Engineering Requirement describes requirements for the modular expansion of the Automated Radar Terminal System, ARTS II. This system is intended for use at airports experiencing a low to medium level of air traffic. The enhanced system will provide for the decoding of secondary radar data, the generation of target reports from this data, the tracking of beacon targets, and the display of associated alphanumeric identification, Mode C altitude and ground speed data. In addition, all controlled Mode C aircraft will be monitored and warnings displayed for aircraft that are in conflict with other aircraft or the terrain. The system will interface with ARTCC facilities and will exchange ATC data on-line. A training mode will be provided so the system can be used to train air traffic controllers in a mixed live/simulated environment.

The existing ARTS-II harmare will be expanded, upgraded or modified to provide sufficient capacity for the enhanced functions.

The current ARTS-II operational software will be modified and expanded and new software will be developed to provide all enhanced functions.
