scope:
This specification defines the requirements for a matt emulsion paint with fungicidal properties based on polyvinyl acetate and/or acrylic homo- or co-polymer resins, suitable for the decoration of the interior of buildings. Paints to this specification are available in a limited range of colours chosen from those in BS 4800. The paint shall be capable of being applied by brushing or rolling after the addition of up to 10% of water by volume.
It is not expected to be used either as a cure in severe cases of mould growth, or where dampness or hygiene demands a heavy-duty coating.
The paint system for new surfaces will normally consist of one sealing coat followed by one finishing coat. On excessively absorbent surfaces, it may be necessary to use a paint system of one sealing coat followed by two finishing coats. The sealing coat will normally be obtained by thinning the paint as supplied with up to 20% of water by volume.
The coating should retain good decorative appearance and effective mould-resistance for four years in situations where, in the absence of fungicidal properties, light mould growth may develop.
