This part of IEC 60050 gives the general terminology used in the theory of electric and magnetic circuits, as well as general terms pertaining to circuit elements and their characteristics, to network topology, to n-port and two-port networks, to methods of circuit theory.

This terminology is of course consistent with the terminology developed in the other specialized parts of the IEV.

The section on polyphase circuits, which was existing in the first edition "Electric and magnetic circuits", will be expanded in a separate part of IEC 60050.
