scope:
This specification covers a ceramic body armor insert to be worn by aircrew personnel. The body armor when inserted into the carrier and worn is intended to provide protection from small arms fire. The body armor is part of an aicrew survival system. This is a special purpose Life Support Clothing and Equipment (LSC&E) item. All Government administrative and surveillance procedures applicable to LSC&E items shall be invoked in accordance with the contract or purchase order (see 6.2).
