MODUK - DEF-156

Adhesive, Emulsion, Polyvinyl Acetate Types ´A´ and ´B´ (04.67);

inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 April 1967
Status: inactive
Page Count: 6
scope:

This specification relates to aqueous emulsions of vinyl polymers for use as adhesives to secure paper or fabric labels to packages and to provide such labels with a moisture resistant coating.

Type 'A' is intended for fixing labels to the outside of cardboard or wooden containers only. Type 'B' may also be used on painted metal or unpainted aluminium but NOT on unpainted aluminium alloys.

Both types are unsuitable for use in proximity to explosives and if used inside unventilated containers will give rise to acidic vapours which may cause corrosion of metal parts.

The normal method of use shall be to apply a brushed coat of the adhesive to the surface to be labelled and to place the label in position whilst the film of adhesive is still wet. The label shall then be worked into contact with the surface by means of a few rapid strokes of the brush previously used, freshly charged if necessary, thereby leaving a protective covering of adhesive on the label.

Note: When used with fabric labels the adhesive will take longer to dry than indicated by the tests with paper labels detailed in this specification.
