- This Part 1 of the MLS specification defines General Requirements that are applicable to all MLS Ground Equipment to be furnished by the contractor. This includes general performance requirements in areas such as modularity, electromagnetic compatibility, and maintainability. It includes equipment requirements of a general nature such as special test equipment, power equipment, and Equipment Monitors (EQM's), It also includes general type documentation requirements such as reliability and maintainability plans. In addition, this specification defines the interrelationships between the various MLS specifications.
Applicability of MLS specifications.- Figure 1 provides the terminology and depicts the relationships between the major equipment items that comprise the MLS Ground Equipment. The shaded boxes in Figure 1 indicate those items for which the detailed requirements are covered in this Part. The Approach Azimuth and Precision Distance Measuring Equipment (DME/P) functions are combined into a single Approach Azimuth Station. There is a separate Approach Elevation Station for the Elevation function and a separate Back Azimuth Station for the Back Azimuth function (when that function is used in a particular MLS facility). The five Parts of the MLS specification (and one MLS standard) have applicability to these MLS Stations as described below:
