This NES contains explanatory material and instructions for the preparation of a Production Test Specification (PTS). It applies to all electrotechnical equipment for which performance characteristics need to be demonstrated to show that the equipment conforms to an agreed standard and is acceptable for use.

This NES is not intended to cover the testing of prototype or pre-production equipment for which an exhaustive programme of tests is generally required. However, a draft PTS may need to be used to test prototypes during development in order to ensure its suitability for later production testing.
