A total of 22 Direct Access Radar Channel (DARC) systems are currently installed at 20 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regional air route traffic control centers (ARTCCs), with one system at the FAA Technical Center in Atlantic City Airport, New Jersey, and one at the FAA Training Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The primary functions of the DARC systems are to serve as narrowband radar backup systems in ARTCCs equipped with National Airspace System (NAS) Stage A automated radar data processing systems. This specification establishes requirements for an upgraded version of the present DARC systems including their design, development, construction, performance, testing, system integration, and installation.
