MODUK - DEF STAN 02-524: PART 3
Guide to the Selection of Cable Glands in Submarines Part 3 Bulkhead Penetrators and Gland Tubes

scope:
Submarine lectrical installations require some cables to penetrate internal bulkheads whilst leaving the pressure-tight integrity of the bulkhead unimpaired.
This requirement has been met by the use of pressure tight cables which are passed through and sealed in compression type bulkhead glands.
An alternative method of glanding more recently adopted for new construction submarines is the use of 'bulkhead cable penetrators' which enables non-pressure tight cables to be used.
This NE'S provides guidance on the selection of bulkhead penetrators and gland tubes.
