DS/ISO/IEC 10646-1 specifies the Universal Multiple-Octet Coded Character Set (UCS). It is applicable to the representation, transmission, processing interchange, storage, input and presentation of the written form of the languages of the world as well as additional symbols. This part specifies the overall architecture, defines terms, describes the general structure of the coded character set, specifies the BMP, the names of the graphic characters, the 4-octet and 2-octet forms, coded representations for control functions, and management of future additions.
