scope:
This specification relates to a waterproofing compound suitable for application to fire-bricks in furnaces before boiler cleaning by water-washing. The material is required to prevent absorption or penetration of alkali contaminated water into or through the refractory material.
A film of the material is reasonably resistant to wear and damage caused by pedestrians and movement of steel trestle legs, and is not softened by contact with water.
The film is capable of being burnt off when the furnace burners are ignited and does not cause detriment to the refractory lining.
The material may be applied by brushing or spraying as a two-coat system.
