scope:
This specification relates to four grades (A, B, C and D) of expanded polyethylene sheet for use as a resilient cushioning material in packaging.
The four grades are characterized by maximum permissible apparent density as shown in Table 2. The material has a low water absorption and is therefore suitable for use outside a moisture vapour barrier.
The designation 'Type GP' indicates the material is of a quality suitable for general packaging applications.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is of a quality suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement and the composition may therefore be restricted. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Director, Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment, Waltham Abbey, Essex EN9 IAX.
