scope:
This standard establishes requirements for selection of fuses, fuseholders, and associated hardware, shown in detail in sections 100 through 300, for use in military equipment. Included are the following:
a. Selected standard fuses, fuseholders, and associated hardware chosen jointly by the Departments of the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force for use in the new design and manufacture of military equipment under the jurisdiction of the Department of Defense.
b. Guides for the choice and application of fuses, fuseholders, and associated hardware for use in military equipment.
Complete detailed requirements for fuses and associated hardware listed in this standard are covered in the applicable specification sheets or MS sheets (see 2.1). (The complete part number or type designation, and the number of the applicable specification sheet or MS sheet should be referenced in acquisition documents for the fuses or associated hardware.) When it has been determined that circuit requirements cannot be met by using the fuse styles or characteristics listed in this standard, the design engineer with the approval of the cognizant military activity should select from the applicable fuse specification, styles or characteristics not listed herein.
The purpose of this standard is to:
a. Provide the equipment designer with a list of fuses and their associated hardware that are considered to be the most flexible for military specifications.
b. Control and minimize the variety of fuses used in military equipment in order to facilitate logistic support of the equipment in the field.
c. Establish criteria pertinent to the choice, application, and use of fuses, fuseholders, and their associated hardware in military equipment.
