This document addresses data link information exchange on the basic interface, consisting of Link 11, Link 11B, and Link 16, and the extended interface, consisting of Link 4A, the Interim Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) Message Specification (IJMS), Army Tactical Data Link-1 (ATDL-1), and Link 1. Chapter 2 describes the data link interface in terms of interface units and configuration, data links, voice coordination nets required for tactical operations, and the Multifunction Information Distribution System (MIDS) network. Chapter 3 delineates the responsibilities for the planning, initiating, conducting and terminating operations which employ data link communications. Chapter 4 provides the common data link procedures necessary for planning any data link interface. Chapter 5 provides interface-operating procedures for real-time information exchange between operators. It also specifies normal procedures to establish, initialise, enter, and change the multi-data link interface. Chapter 6 provides procedures for the control of aircraft using voice and data link communications. Chapter 7 describes the interface capability for training using exercise and simulated tracks, and provides procedures for their use. Chapter 8 shows references to where National Deviations to Operational Procedures can be found.
