This specification sets forth the requirements for a Visibility Sensor which will be used for air traffic control by providing an instrumentally derived value of RVR for Category IIIb levels of flight operations. The current RVR 500 system provides RVR from 600 ft to 6000 ft. The sensor to be provided shall input to the current RVR remote displays subsystem (Type FA9472). The sensor equipment will be mounted for unattended, continuous and unprotected outdoor operation at airports.

intended Use:

The equipment specified herein is intended for use at airports to provide runway visual range data, essential to the safety of departing and arriving aircraft.
