MODUK - DTD-5596A
Vulcanized Ethylene-Propylene Rubbers (General Purpose)
The materials covered by this specification are intended for the production of items such as sheets, moudlings and certain extrusions, mainly for mechanical applications in contact with air over the temperature range -60ºC to 120ºC. They have excellent azone resistance. They may be used in contact with phosphate ester and silicon fluids but are not intended for seals in hydraulic components or for applications where low compression set is of prime importance. For such applications D.T.D 5597 "Vulcanized Ethylene Propylene Rubbers (Fluid Resistance)" is preferred. Contact with fuels, mineral and di-ester oils and silicate ester and greases derived from any of these should be avoided.
NOTE. At ordinary temperature and in the absence of hostile environments, e.g. whe properly stored, these rubbers deteriorate only very slowly. However, the rate of deterioration increased markedly with increased temperature and the service live of a rubber therefore depends upon the operatinonal temperature. Conversely, the maximum temperature at which a rubber may be used depands upon the useful life required.
