scope:
Allied Engineering Publication (AEP) -18 is a reference document for system developers. It is expressly written for those system developers who are unfamiliar with the many nuances of EMP testing but are nevertheless responsible for developing systems which must survive the EMP environment described in AEP-4.
The document is noticeably different from other EMP reference documents in both organization and format. It is divided into two parts, Part I for system managers and Part II for system engineers. Though each is meant to stand alone, together they form the steps required to properly plan, execute, and document a system level verification and acceptance test program. The format is also unique, providing space on each page for note-taking. And finally, releveant reference documents are provided at the end of each chapter for those readers intrerested in more details.
Probably the single most important piece of information given the system
manager in Part I is a detailed test milestone flowchart, a simplified
version of which is given in figure ES-1. It is essentially the roadmap
for developing/executing
In addition to the detailed test milestone flowchart, Part I identifies a technique for selecting the proper test facilities for a given system type. This selection technique is summarized in figure ES-2. It should be noted that the selection technique is based on an ideal situation where all types of simulation and test methods are available. This may not always be the case, and choice may be limited by the availability of resources. In this case, the system manager should consult his national EMP point of contact to determine the best available option.
