FAA-E-2582

ASR-7 RADAR IMPROVEMENTS

active, Most Current
Organization: FAA
Publication Date: 8 January 1974
Status: active
Page Count: 61
scope:

This specification sets forth the requirements for an improvement package for the ASR-7 radar system. The contractor shall be responsible for:

(1) The removal of the existing ASR-7 antenna and installation of a GFE ASR-8 antenna.

(2) The design, production and installation of a RF receiver control system.

(3) The design and installation of a RAG (Range Azimuth Gating) unit.

(4) The design and installation of a solid-state monitor PPI to replace the existing tube type PPI.

(5) The design and performance of modifications to the ASR-7 to provide for the operation of the radar system in a dual frequency diversity mode.

The ASR-8 antenna's dual drive system will offer increased reliability. The RAG unit and the ASR-8 dual beam antenna will allow improved low angle coverage and a reduction in clutter. The dual frequency diversity will enable both channels of the radar to operate as active channels to effect an improvement in target detectability.
