Avionic Data Transmission Interface Systems Part 7: Utilities Data Bus Standard Supplement A: Supplement for an Alternative Bus Transceiver

Scope and purpose

This supplement enables user and potential user of the Def Stan 00-18 (Part 7) to implement the Standard using a data bus transceiver designed for civil and commercial aircraft applications, offering reduced cost in comparison to the Def Stan 00-88 (Part7) Standard Implementation.

This supplement addresses an alternative loe cost transceiver implementation and must be used in conjuction with Def Stan 00-18 (Part 7). The main advantage of this approach compared with a stand-alone alternative tranceiver standard is that the supplement does not have to be amended each time the specific Def Stand 00-18 Standard is changed.

The benefit of using the alternative implementation described in this Supplement is that the wider range of input amplitudes allowed means that both direct and transfomer coupled stubs can operate within the common voltage range, unlike the more tightly defined Def Stan 00-18 (Part 7) implementation. Both direct and transfomer coupled stubs using the alternative transceiver on the same data bus is possible.

A summary of the structure and content of the supplement is given in clause 3.
