The Report seeks to clarify the terminology used in radiation protection practice and to minimize the ambiguities often introduced as a result of the use of simplifying assumptions and approximations. The report contains major sections on: the dose equivalent, quantities and their interrelationships, the index quantities and their utilization, and the determination of dose equivalent index. The Report also includes appendices treating the hierarchy of radiation quantities, the specification of absorbed dose and the effect of angular distribution of the incident radiation.
