MODUK - DEF STAN 01-06: PART 3

Guide to the Selection of Adhesives and Adhesive Tapes for Use on Service Materiel Part 3: Specifications

inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 January 1990
Status: inactive
Page Count: 15
scope:

This Part of the Standard provides a list of specifications currently available against which adhesives and adhesive tapes may be procured.

Only 'open' specifications are referred to. These consist of British Standards, Aerospace Series and Defence Standards. Some open specifications (DTD, TS, CS, KB, DEF, DG SHIPS) are still extant, although no longer being maintained with the exception of DTDs.

A considerable number of proprietary specifications are also maintained by the MOD, particularly for adhesives. These are known as Agreed Firms Schedules (AFS). As the name implies, these are specifications agreed with particular manufacturers for particular proprietary products: they are classified as 'Commercial-in-Confidence'. These AFS documents are not listed, as by their nature they are the most liable to amendment and cancellation. If information is required on any particular AFS, then contact should be made with DQA/TS.

Open specifications may contain "Type Approval" clauses - these specifications are identified thus V. Only manufacturers that have gained such Type Approval may supply to these standards. A list of manufacturers may be obtained on request from Poly 1 Adhesives, DQA/TS, Royal Arsenal East, Woolwich, London SE18 6TD.

It may be noted that few adhesive materials are specified to British Standards: however a large number of test methods are published in BS 5350 and these are widely used in Defence Standard Documents.

Specifications should be checked for amendment status and for date of issue against the relevant index (BSI Standards Catalogue, D Stan Index and DTD Index), together with any circulars issued by the relevant organization.
