Publication Date: 1 January 1992
Status: active
Page Count: 96
ICS Code (Plug-and-socket devices. Connectors): 31.220.10
scope:

This part of IEC 807 is applicable to connectors used in local area networks. It specifies the functional, electrical and mechanical characteristics of such connectors. The basic connector has four (4) signal contacts and earthing contacts for cable screen. When used in a data communication network application, it has the capability for contact self-shorting to complete the trunk loop when disconnected.

One style of the connector is designed for panel mounting exclusively. These connectors mate with a free connector which is hermaphroditic in design.

Another style of the connector is a free connector. This connector's hermaphroditic design enables two identical connectors to mate when oriented 180° with respect to each other. In some applications, one of the mated connectors may be mounted in a fixed position such as a wall outlet or metal distribution panel; a locking mechanism accommodates this type of mounting. Cable entry/exit is provided from three different ports utilizing a variety of st rain reliefs/bus hings.
