scope:

The Small Arms Management Program is applicable to all elements of the Navy. In relation to the U.S. Marine Corps, this instruction is applicable only to aviation units and does not apply to small arms, weapons, and equipment authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps Table of Organization and Table of Equipment Allowances. In relation to the U.S. Coast Guard, during peacetime this instruction is applicable only to .50 caliber machine guns and associated mounts provided by the Navy. Upon mobilization, this instruction applies to all small arms and associated mounts.

Purpose. To provide policy and guidance relative to the Small Arms and Weapons Management Program, and to provide information essential to users of all Navy furnished small arms, weapons and mounts, including match-conditioned small arms.
