scope:
This Part one contains requirements which are applicable alone or in conjunction with other parts of this specification for equipment comprising the airport remote monitoring system (ARMS). The ARMS consists of microprocessor controlled equipment necessary to remotely monitor, control and certify proper performance of various communication, navigation and lighting systems (not to be furnished under this specification). It includes a link control unit, and one or more equipment remote monitoring subsystems (RMSs). The link control unit provides a central point for communication between a maintenance processor system (not to be furnished under this specification) and the equipment RMSs. It manages communication to the various equipment sites via a radio link and alternately via landlines. It also stores data necessary for certifying equipment performance, and when requested by the maintenance processor system (MPS) forwards data to the MPS or acts upon commands from the MPS. The equipment RMSs are located at various equipment sites on the airport. The equipment RMS consists of sensors for sampling signals from the airport equipment, an interface unit (if required) to buffer or preprocess the sampled signals, and a data acquisition system for digitizing, formatting and transmitting to the link control unit the digitized sampled signals. The link control unit and each equipment RMS incorporate a terminal interface. The terminal interface when connected to a portable terminal (not to be furnished under this specification) provides for local control and monitoring of the airport remote monitoring system.
