Paint, Emulsion, Vinyl Silk, for Interior Use
|Publication Date:||31 October 1979|
This specification relates to vinyl silk emulsion paint based on polyvinyl acetate and/or acrylic homo- or co-polymer resins, suitable for the decoration of the interiors of buildings. Paint to this specification is available in a limited range of colours chosen from those in BS 4800. A The paint shall be capable of being applied by brush, roller and airless spraying. The addition of up to 10% water by volume is permissible to produce a material suitable for brush or roller application and up to 20% water by volume to produce a material suitable for airless spray application.
The paint system for new surfaces will normally consist of one sealing coat followed by one finishing coat. On excessively absorbent surfaces it may be necessary to use a paint system of one sealing coat followed by two finishing coats. The sealing coat will normally be obtained by thinning the paint as supplied with up to 20% of water by volume.
The coating should retain a good decorative appearance for at least 6 years when exposed to interior situations not subject to heavy condensation conditions. At that time it should be capable of being overcoated after no more preparation than washing down. If the colour of the surface to be painted after washing is similar to the paint used for maintenance, only one finishing coat should be necessary.
