Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 14 November 2006
Status: active
Page Count: 22
scope:

Cables which are permanently installed in Surface Ships are required to be supported, protected and sealed where they pass through a bulkhead or deck. This Defence Standard describes the minimum requirements for single and multiple way glands for use on board surface ships for this purpose.

The intention of this Defence Standard is to facilitate the use of commercially available glands as far as possible on new build and refit ships.

This Defence Standard does not apply to temporary electrical installations, e.g. shore telephone connections or emergency cables. It does not apply to local equipment enclosures.

Although this Defence Standard applies primarily to surface ships, there is no specific exclusion of submarines. Applicability to submarines is dependent on whether the requirements listed herein meet the standards specified for particular submarine bulkheads or decks.
