Industrial-Process Measurement and Control - Documentation of Application Software
Organization: | IEC |
Publication Date: | 1 February 1997 |
Status: | active |
Page Count: | 130 |
ICS Code (Industrial process measurement and control): | 25.040.40 |
scope:
This International Standard defines the requirements for the documentation of software in industrial process measurement and control systems to make it possible to:
- acquire,
- supply,
- design and develop,
- produce,
- install,
- commission,
- operate,
- maintain,
- decommission
the system. It covers single systems and also several systems in a network.
The documentation of software is integrated with other plant documentation. For example, the hardware descriptions and drawings, and the guidelines needed for the acquisition, supply, design, production, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the total system.
This standard applies to application software and configuration data. It does not apply to operating system software or proprietary packages, except where explicitly stated.
This standard does not deal with administrative documentation.
Some documents, such as the function description (see annex B) necessarily cover both hardware and software.
This international standard is not concerned with who prepares the documents. It may be the purchaser, the supplier, or a consultant. This may differ in different situations and between different products, and will not normally influence the content of the documents.
In the annexes concerning the contents of the documents there is a clause "Minimum Content". All points under this title are mandatory for all projects. If not relevant for a specific project, this should be stated by the author.
NOTE - For requirements of documentation of E/E/PES safety related systems, see future IEC 61508-1 (see bibliography) and future IEC 61508-5 (see bibliography).
