AIM
The aim of Allied Procedural Publication 12 is to:
Set out the principles relating to the establishment and functions of NATO Military Police acting on behalf of the commander appointed within NATO, when formations of one or more NATO forces are stationed or moving on operational territory. In the context of this APP the term NATO Military Police may include forces composed of NATO, non-NATO or PfP nations.
Standardise doctrine, tactics, techniques and procedures to be used by NATO Military Police during NATO operations in the areas of:
a. Investigations. (Particularly the urgent measures to be taken in case of breaches of discipline by military members of multi-national force and incidents which cannot be dealt with solely on a national level.)
b. Traffic control.
c. Law enforcement.
d. Area security.
e. Prisoner of War (EPW) operations.
f. NATO Military Police specialised unit operations.
g. NATO Military Police intelligence operations (MPIO).
h. NATO Military Police standardised reports.
Provide staff guidance on the employment of Military Police in NATO Combined and Joint Operations.
NOTE: Where references are made to G Staffs a changing operational environment may transition these to J Staffs.
