Description

The trap seal primers are of four (4) types:

a) Those that are installed on waste line tail pieces from fixtures, such as lavatories, sinks and similar fixtures where grease is not normally generated;

b) Those that are used in conjunction with ballcock assemblies;

c) Those that receive flow from flushometer valves; and

d) Those electric trap seal primers that discharge water automatically and are upstream of the air gap or vacuum breaker.

Fixture Connected Type

Tubing size shall be not less than 1¼ NPS (32 DN) nominal size. Makeup water supply connection shall be a minimum of ⅜ NPS (10 DN) nominal size.

Ballcock Connected

Type Makeup water supply connections to the refill tube shall not be less than ¼ NPS (8 DN) nominal size.

Flushometer Connected Type

Makeup type water supply connections shall be a minimum of ⅜ NPS (10 DN) nominal size of chrome-plated copper, brass or stainless steel.

Electric Type

The minimum inlet size shall be ½ NPS (15 DN). The minimum outlet size shall be ⅜ NPS (10 DN)

Working Pressure

Pressurized trap seal primers shall be designed for a working water pressure range of 25.0 to 125.0 psi (172 to 861.8

Connections

Tapered pipe threads shall comply with ASME B1.20.1.

Dry seal pipe threads shall comply with ASME B1.20.3.

Compression assemblies shall comply with SAE J 512.

Solder connection fittings shall comply with ASME B16.18, ASME B16.22, ASME B16.23 or ASME B16.29.

Fixture Tailpiece Trap Seal Primers

Fixture trap or tailpiece trap seal primers shall consist of a 1¼ inch (32 mm) or larger tailpiece or trap assembly that is designed to connect to a supply tube that drains to the floor drain trap inlet.

Ballcock Trap Seal Primers

Ballcock trap seal primers shall consist of a refill tube diversion mechanism, a close coupled tank bolt/drain assembly, and related fittings for connection to the closet tank and ballcock. The diversion refill tube assembly shall be fitted with clear vinyl tubing, not less than ¼ inch (6.4 mm) inside diameter from the point of connection to the check member, a ¼ inch (6.4 mm) tee fitting, a check valve and a flow restrictor. Connections from the outlet of the close coupled tank connector tube shall not be less than ⅜ inch (9.5 mm) outside diameter.

Ballcock trap seal primer shall be used in conjunction with anti-siphon fill valves complying with ASSE 1002.

Flushometer Tailpiece/Trap Seal Primers

Flushometer tailpiece/trap seal primers shall be chrome-plated with minimum tailpiece wall thickness of 0.040 inch (1.0 mm) with a minimum ⅜ inch (9.5 mm) outside diameter compression type chrome-plated brass fitting. Compression fittings shall comply with SAE J512.

Flushometer Tailpiece/Trap Seal Primer Use

Flushometer tailpiece/trap seal primers shall only be used in conjunction with a flushometer complying with ASSE 1037 and shall be installed below the critical level of the vacuum breaker.

Electric Trap Seal Primers

Electric Trap Priming Assembly Electric trap priming assemblies shall comply with one or more of the following standards:

a) UL 1951, Standard for Electric Plumbing Accessories

b) CSA-C22.2 No. 68, Motor-Operated Appliances (Household and Commercial)

Backflow Protection

Backflow protection shall be installed at the discharge point and comply with ASSE 1001 or ASME A112.1.2.
