Objective
For field bus communication to work optimally with field devices, devices of the same type, even if not from the same manufacturer, have to behave in the same way. This can only be achieved by standardizing not only communication (i.e. selecting a standardized field bus), but also those device functions and device parameters which are accessed via the field bus. This end is served by a profile that is based on a device model.
This guideline is dedicated to the task of ensuring that, for the field of water management and the pertinent requirements, the relevant device parameters and functionalities are defined in a profile.
Existing device profiles (PROFIBUS PA profiles V 3.01) serve as templates for this task. This guideline is, consequently, an extension of existing device profiles.
The specific scope of this guideline is given by the use of profiles of field buses in municipal and industrial water, wastewater and sewage treatment plants (water management plants).
This guideline defines the behaviour of field devices as visible through a communication system, differentiating by:
• measuring devices
• analysers
• control valves
The guideline does not cover, e.g., programmable logic controllers, process data servers, parameterising tools, engineering stations and operator stations.
• this guideline
• operating instructions/interfa
• device description
• field bus specifications
• field bus profiles (if any, such as PROFIBUS PA)
