scope:
The standard establishes a common language for describing the contents of the TRIZ methodology. For newcomers to the methodology, this will facilitate the access to and orientation in the literature, understanding the methods and their underlying assumptions, and the classification of new knowledge.
In teaching the method, contents can be more clearly delineated and defined. It will be easier to compare and evaluate methods, tools, ordering schemes, and hypotheses, once their respective meanings in theory and practice have been determined, so that they can be offered to the user as validated and standardised tools.
For the application of the methodology in practice, the standard provides the meanings of contents and terms which will help to explain statements made by consultants. Overall, an improvement of quality in all areas mentioned can be achieved.
For activities on further development of TRIZ, the standard provides a baseline reference for comparison of existing and new knowledge. Newly developed methods and tools can be distinguished clearly from the prior state set forth in this standard which helps to avoid double interpretations. This way, it will constitute a guideline for the engineer to distinguish between established and verified tools on the one hand and new approaches which are still under development
