This standard describes a system architecture for intralogistics. In the following it will be designated by the abbreviation "SAIL". SAIL is an architectural model used to describe components for Intralogistic systems as well as their basic functions and principle interfaces. The SAIL model is completely platform-independent.

This standard describes the fundamentals of SAIL, VDI/VDMA 5100 Part 2 illustrates these fundamentals by means of examples and Part 3 describes additional components such as scales, machine vision systems, robots, packaging machines as well as labelling and printing systems.
