The 2015 International Building Code (IBC) covers all buildings except detached one- and two-family dwelling and townhouses not more than 3 stories in height. Previous editions of the IBC have been adopted at the state or local level in all 50 United States and Washington, D.C. The IBC also has prepared earthquake spectral response acceleration maps in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey; Building Seismic Safety Council; Federal Emergency Management Agency; and E.V. Leyendecker, A.D. Frankel and K.S. Rukstales of the U.S. Geological Survey that will assist you with understanding the building and residential codes.
