scope:
This standard presents a systematic approach for the introduction of a product data management system (PDM system) and follow-up changes. It provides an overview of the current state of the art of technology used in PDM systems. The integration of a PDM system in the product life cycle management (PLM) process is investigated. This standard introduces separate approaches for both the initial introduction and an entire change of a PDM system.
The standard addresses large companies, global corporations and medium-size enterprises. Appropriate evaluation methods are suggested for economically validated assessments of PDM system deployment. Small companies are encouraged to check opportunities to introduce a PDM system, particularly with regard to cost/benefit aspects, by application of the methods proposed in this standard.
