scope:
This standard defines a procedure model that can be applied to middleware engineering processes in industrial automation. The procedure model illustrates the sequence, activities and methods to be applied. It can be used entirely or for individual phases and processes. The chronology of the individual processes is only roughly considered. Usually, the individual processes run simultaneously, overlap or take place in several iterating steps. These continuities are not represented.
This standard describes which processes and models are required to create or commission applications based on a middleware. The engineering of a middleware and the relevant tools is not covered by the procedure model.
A middleware engineering process aims at the effective and efficient provision of the requested horizontal and vertical information integration using a middleware. This standard subdivides engineering into the following phases: requirements analysis, conception, invitation to tender, selection and awarding, configuration, commissioning, operation and optimisation, as well as system change. It supports communication between
• operator,
• integrator and
• middleware provider.
