Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards Chapter 13-Statistical Aspects of Measuring and Sampling Section 1-Statistical Concepts and Procedures in Measurements
Organization: | API |
Publication Date: | 1 June 1985 |
Status: | active |
Page Count: | 29 |
scope:
This chapter covers the basic concepts involved in es-timating errors by statistical techniques and ensuring that results are quoted in the most meaningful way. The statistical procedures that should be followed in estimating a true quantity from one or more measurements and in deriving the range of uncertainty of the results are discussed. Sources of error are examined and examples are provided showing how a statement of the overall uncertainty in completed measurements is derived.
The subsequent sections (in preparation at the time this section was published) of Chapter 13 will deal with the application of the concepts discussed in Section I to various methods for bulk oil measurement widely used in the petroleum industry. Chapter 13.1 is a reference document explaining theory and the application of sta-tistical procedures whereas subsequent sections will provide statistical equations and typical examples for various types of measurement.
