scope:
The recently released Standard TS-1™specification outlines manufacturing requirements for drill pipe used in a sourservice environment. Manufacturing drill pipe joints to this specificationallows you to control material properties, testing, dimensions, and inspectionrequiremen
Standard TS-1™ has two pipe grades:TS-95 and TS-105 with minimum yield strengths of 95 ksi and 105 ksi, respectively, while the tool joints have a controlled yield strength of 110ksi. The standard also covers NACE H2S testing for drill pipe tubes, tool joints, and welds, making this standard compliant with the NACE MR0175standard.
Why UseTS-1?
- Sour service drill pipe manufacturing is not covered by any APIspecification.
- The manufacturing requirements such as hardness values, hardnessvariation, imperfection tolerance, testing frequency, etc. are more stringentthan the current Canadian IRP standard for sour service drill pipe.
- Mill inspections are also covered in much greater detailcompared to the IRP standards, including inspection methodology, standard
ization, imperfection tolerance, wall thickness tolerance, and more. - NACE H 2 S weld testing is covered, which is unique toTS-1.
- All manufacturing requirements are in tabular format tofacilitate ease of use for manufacturing experts, pipe buyers and users.
- Along with the material properties, the standard also addressespipe sizes and weights, internal upset configurations, tool joint sizes andconnection types.
- Provides requirements on supplementary properties such ashardbanding, cold rolling of threads, phosphating, bench marks, threadprotectors, Internal Plastic Coating (IPC), etc.
- Covers receiving inspections to ensure the drill pipe meets Standard DS-1 used inspection criteria and is ready for field use.
