Objective
The objective of this research report is to provide engineers guidance on how to verify a CFD code and how to validate and report the results of CFD analyses on indoor environmental conditions and to illustrate the process of employing the guidance on relevant examples.
The report is divided into two sections. Section 2 presents a manual that describes how to verify a CFD code, how to validate both user and CFD code, and how to report the results of CFD analyses when modeling indoor environments. In Section 3, the application of the processes documented in Section 2 is illustrated, step-by-step, for two representative indoor environmental modeling applications, an office with mechanical displacement ventilation and an apartment building with natural ventilation. The examples cover these subjects:
- Ventilation air flows
- Temperature and humidity distribution
- Contaminant transport.
