This standard deals with the mounting of hardware used for the (manual or automatic) opening and closing of doors, gates, windows and the like, or for keeping them in a given position.

DIN 18299, clauses 1 to 5 shall also apply. In cases where the specifications of DIN 18299 contradict the present standard, DIN 18357 shall take precedence.
