Measurement of particles - Methods for generating test aerosols - Dispersing liquids

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 January 2017
Status: active
Page Count: 46
ICS Code (Air quality in general): 13.040.01
scope:

This standard describes methods for generating test aerosols based on the dispersion of liquids (pure substances, solutions, suspensions and emulsions). The methods can be used for calibrating, adjusting or checking particle-counting measuring instruments and for checking the associated sampling, conditioning and diluting systems.

In addition, these test aerosols can be used for determining the separation or permeation performance of precipitation or separation systems (e.g. filters and cyclones).

Further possible applications exist in the provision of tracer particles for optical flow rate measurement and of test materials and standardised samples for more detailed analysis (e.g. EC/OC analysis).

These methods are employed as well in medical research (e.g. inhalation experiments, toxicological investigations).
