scope:

This Standard covers the design, material selection, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of onshore pipeline systems that carry crude oil, multiphase fluids, condensate, liquid petroleum products, natural gas liquids, liquefied petroleum gas, and oilfield water at or between facilities shown in Figure 1.1.

The scope of this Standard is shown in Figure 1.1 and includes:

(a) all pressure pipe, valves, fittings, and auxiliary components used in pipeline systems, tank farms, pump stations, pressure reducing stations, and metering stations; and

(b) selection of materials and installation of tank farms and pump stations in accordance with other referenced codes and standards, with specific references to Clause 5.6.

This Standard does not cover the following:

(a) piping with metal temperatures above 120°C or below - 45°C;

Note: Although not specifically covered by this Standard, designs for higher temperatures may be used, provided the effects of such higher temperatures are accounted for.

(b) in-plant piping systems such as those for instrument air, drinking, make-up and boiler feed water; steam; gas; fuel and lubricating oil;

(c) casing, tubing and pipe in oil wells, wellheads, separators, production tanks, and other production facilities;

(d) terminals (other than pipeline), refineries, marketing bulk plants, and gas processing plants;

(e) gas pipelines;

(f) liquefied natural gas pipelines;

(g) fuel distribution systems; and

(h) loading/unloading facilities for tankers or barges, or both.

It is not the intent of this Standard to prevent the development of new equipment or practices, or to prescribe how such innovations should be handled.

Where any requirements of this Standard are at variance with the requirements of other standards or codes incorporated by reference into this Standard, the requirements of this Standard shall govern.

The requirements of this Standard shall not be applied retroactively to existing installations and installations under construction at the time of its approval but shall apply to the extension, repair, maintenance, and upgrading of such installations.
