Determination of the nitrogen content of hard coal, brown co al and lignite by the macro Kjeldahl method. Principle: Coal is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid i n presence of mixed catalyst to convert nitrogen into ammoni um sulphate, from which ammonia, released by distillation fr om alkaline solution, is absorbed in sulphuric acid, and exc ess acid titrated with sodium or potassium hydroxide.
