scope:
This Defence Standard is designed to offer guidance on the principles of the R&M Case and, using examples, how these principles might be tailored to support the contention of assurance for different programmes.
The role of the Standard is to provide the building blocks to assist those concerned with assurance to understand how to adapt appropriate principles, primarily from BS EN 62741:2015, in order that suitable argument supported by evidence can be presented.
In all cases the requirement(s) must be demonstrable, through analyses and trials if appropriate, using the R&M Case methodology. Failure to do so means it is likely that achievement of the requirement cannot be verified/validated and/or the User will lack confidence in the delivered solution.
This Standard contains a number of examples based on the principles specified in BS EN 62741:2015. Each example is examined to provide guidance on how the variations in their content might affect and be utilised to support compliance of the R&M requirements.
The examples are generic and are not designed to be used in their current form. They represent only a small sample of the scope and options available for presenting argument and supporting evidence to support R&M achievement. Further information is obtained in the Related Documents listed below and further guidance is available from the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Reliability Team, based in MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol.
