Use/Relationship: This Data Item Description (DID) specifies the content and format for development of a Program-Unique Process or Material Specification.

a. This DID identifies the format and content preparation instructions for a Performance or Detail Specification resulting from the work task described in 5.2.1.4.2 through 5.2.1.4.2.2 MIL-STD-1587.

b. Material specifications are used to identify the specific requirements for a raw material, mixtures, or semi-fabricated materials that are used in the fabrication of a product configuration item (CI). Normally, a material specification applies to production, but may be prepared to control the development of a material. A material specification is limited to those specific materials that are unique to the product in which they are used.

c. Process specifications are used to identify a specific process that is essential to fabrication or procurement of a product or material used in a configuration item (CI). Normally, a process specification applies to production, but may be prepared to control the development of a process. A process specification is limited to those specific processes that are unique to the product or material to which they apply.

This DID supersedes DI-E-3130/C-143 and DI-E-3131/C-144.
