ICS Code (Metrology and measurement. Physical phenomena (Vocabularies)): | 01.040.17 |
ICS Code (Metrology and measurement in general): | 17.020 |
scope:
The first edition of this Vocabulary was widely distributed. As foreseen in its Foreword, some imperfections have been found which have necessitated corrections, issued in 1987 in the form of an Amendment. Most of the imperfections were of language rather than intended meaning, out it has also been necessary to remove some anomalies, ambiguities and circularities. Furthermore, it became apparent that the Vocabulary did not take sufficient account of the needs of chemistry and related fields.
A Working Group consisting of experts appointed by BIPM. IEC, IFCC. ISO, IUPAC, IUPAP and OIML has therefore undertaken the revision of the first edition, based on the large number of comments received.
As in the first edition, the emphasis has remained on basic and general concepts concerned with metrology and with establishing generally agreed terms together with descriptions of the corresponding concepts which they express.
It is hoped that this Vocabulary will stimulate dialogue between the experts of various specialized disciplines of science and technology, thus contributing to harmonized interdisciplinary terminology.
