This recommended practice provides a general educational publication covering the following aspects of each of the general types of environmentally acceptable fluids used in hydraulic fluid power systems:
a) Product description;
b) Biodegradability and toxicity; c)Operating temperatures;
d) Foaming and aeration;
e)Corrosive protective coatings;
f) Wear resistant characteristics;
g) Viscosity control;
h) Fluid stability;
i) Safety in exposure to fluid;
j) Spills;
k) Contamination;
l) Effects on strainers and filter;
m) Piping and accessory precautions;
n) Changing fluids in a system;
This recommended practice:
a) Provides a composite reference of pertinent general data on enviromentaly acceptable fluids;
b) Improves the operation and increases the reliability of hydraulic systems that use environmentlally acceptable fluids;
c) Improves the operation and increases the reliability of hydraulic systems that use environmentally acceptable fluids;
d) Establishes fluid maintence guidelines for environmentally acceptable fluids; e)Provides basisc procedures for intial filling of changing types of environmentally acceptable fluids considered for use in hydraulic systems;
f) Points out general properties and characteristics of the types of environmentally acceptable fluids considered for use in hydraulic systmes.
