Scope and application
This standard is applicable to the following types of offshore structures:
- column-stabilised units
- self-elevating units
- tension leg platforms
- deep draught floaters.
For utilisation of other materials, the general design principles given in this standard may be used together with relevant standards, codes or specifications covering the requirements for material design and fabrication.
The standard is applicable to structural design of a unit's complete structures including hull structure, substructures and topside structures.
This standard gives requirements for the following:
- design principles
- structural categorisation
- material selection and inspection principles
- loads and load effect analyses
- design of steel structures and connections
- special considerations for different types of units.
Requirements for foundation design, crane pedestal and foundations for lifting appliances, and bolt connections, are given in DNVGL-OS-C101 Ch.2 Sec.10 and DNVGL-OS-C101 Ch.2 Sec.11.
For application of this standard as technical basis for classification, see Ch.3.
Flag and shelf state requirements are not covered by this standard.
Guidance note:
Governmental regulations may include requirements in excess of the provisions of this standard depending on the type, location and intended service of the offshore unit or installation. The 100 year return period is used to ensure harmonisation with typical shelf state requirements and the code for the construction and equipment of mobile offshore drilling units (MODU code).
